According to an operational report from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), a large area of dry vegetation and trees was affected by several fires that erupted on the outskirts of Riolos village, located approximately 30 km from the operational base.

Eleven IGSU firefighters, using four specialized vehicles, responded to the scene, where they worked alongside Greek teams in three firefighting sectors. The teams' efforts focused on extinguishing active hotspots, cooling affected areas, and protecting the village of Riolos, according to the same source.

After completing that mission, the Moldovan firefighters were redirected to the Helidoni Ileia region, where a massive fire had erupted on Saturday evening, affecting an area of approximately 500 hectares. On the morning of August 9th, IGSU personnel continued to fight the flames alongside Greek teams, with a fresh rotation of staff coming in.

This marks the second deployment of Moldovan rescuers to Greece; this contingent of 22 IGSU firefighters, specialized in land-based forest fire combat, arrived on August 1st after a staff rotation.
