Cîrstea secures spot in round of 16 after epic comeback

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea eliminated China's Yue Yuan from the tournament with a three-set victory.

After losing the first set in a tie-break, 6-7 (2:7), the Romanian player made a spectacular comeback to win the next two sets with identical 6-4 scores. She missed a set point in the first set, rallied from a 2-4 deficit in the second, and again from a 0-2 deficit in the deciding set. The match lasted 2 hours and 51 minutes.

In the Round of 16, Cîrstea will face Poland's Iga Świątek, the former women's world No. 1, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the WTA rankings. The two have played each other four times before, with Świątek winning every match.

By qualifying for the Round of 16, Sorana Cîrstea secured a prize of approximately 57,000 U.S. dollars and 120 WTA points.
