Starting Thursday, August 14, patients with cancer will no longer need to travel to Chisinau for chemotherapy treatments. These procedures will be available directly at district hospitals and the Balti Clinical Hospital, as announced by the Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco.

Today, I signed an order that will significantly transform our approach to oncological conditions. We are beginning the organization and implementation of chemotherapy treatments in district hospitals, as well as at the Balti Clinical Hospital," the minister stated in a message published on her Facebook page.

According to Ala Nemerenco, these treatments, which are not complicated administratively, will be more accessible to patients, thereby reducing the costs and inconveniences associated with frequent trips to Chisinau.

The minister assured that the state will fully provide the necessary medications, and specialists from the Oncological Institute will oversee the administration process. In district hospitals, local oncologists will take charge of the treatments to ensure the continuity and safety of patient care.

It is worth noting that approximately 10,000 cases of malignant tumors are registered annually in the Republic of Moldova. Tumors rank as the second leading cause of death among non-communicable diseases, accounting for 12.6% of overall mortality. The most commonly diagnosed malignant tumors in the Republic of Moldova include lung, stomach, colon, liver, breast, and cervical cancer.
