The Parliament Office in Chisinau will be led by a Romanian citizen, inaugurated in September with Roberta Metsola attending

The European Parliament (EP) office in Chisinau is set to be inaugurated in September. It will be led by a highly qualified Romanian citizen, as announced by EP Vice-President Victor Negrescu in an interview with RFI. The opening ceremony will take place with the presence of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, along with Negrescu, who is responsible for relations with the Republic of Moldova.
Victor Negrescu highlighted that the new structure will play a vital role in assisting the Republic of Moldova with the transposition of European legislation. It will provide expertise to parliamentarians and help clarify legislative debates by referencing European facts and best practices. The office will also run programs aimed at young people and maintain the European Parliament's connection with all Eastern Partnership countries.
“Chisinau, which has historically lagged behind in its pursuit of European Union membership, is now becoming the focal point of the Eastern Partnership, at least from the perspective of the European Parliament,” stated Victor Negrescu. He added that this development reinforces the “triangle of support” for the Republic of Moldova, consisting of Chisinau, Bucharest, and Brussels.
In a June interview with Moldova 1, the European Parliament Vice-President mentioned that the office in Chisinau could become operational by September. It aims to support Moldovan authorities in transposing European legislation and effectively communicating EU policies to the public.
