Cantemir–Fălciu railway bridge: CFM receives first batch of materials for rehabilitation

On Friday, August 15, the State Enterprise "Moldova Railway" received its first shipment of materials for the rehabilitation of the railway lines at the bridge over the Prut River. This bridge connects the town of Cantemir in the Republic of Moldova with the village of Fălciu in Romania.

According to CFM specialists, the goods were received after undergoing all necessary inspections.

"The members of the reception committee reviewed the technical specifications and characteristics listed in the certificate of conformity and the quality certificate that accompanied the goods. This included checking the dimensions of the sleepers, the quality of wood impregnation, and the absorption rates of the protective agents," the company representatives said.

The batch of sleepers was purchased using funds allocated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the development of railway transport.

We remind you that on April 14 of this year, the State Enterprise "Calea Ferată din Moldova" and the National Railway Company of Romania signed a Memorandum of Understanding to resume the Prut-Fălciu railway connection.

As part of this agreement, rehabilitation work will be carried out on the railway infrastructure, including the railway bridge and the Prut 2 border stations.

The railway bridge over the Prut River, which connects the town of Cantemir in the Republic of Moldova to the village of Fălciu in Romania, will be reopened to traffic after more than three decades of inactivity.

According to the authorities, traffic will initially resume for the transport of goods, with passenger transport later possible.

The rehabilitated section will be approximately 4 kilometres long.
