Houthi attacks on Israel: Airstrikes hit Yemen's capital, Sanaa

Six people were killed and 86 injured in Israeli airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on Sunday, Reuters reports. The Houthi health ministry later confirmed the death toll.
The Israeli military said targets included a military compound housing the presidential palace, two power plants and a fuel depot. Israeli authorities said the raids were a response to recent rockets and drones launched by Houthi militants.
On Friday, the Houthis said they had launched a ballistic missile towards Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza. An Israeli Air Force official said the missile probably carried several submunitions designed to detonate on impact.
"It's the first time this type of missile has been launched from Yemen," the official added.
The direct conflict between Israel and the Houthis has been ongoing for more than a year, as a result of the war launched against Hamas in Gaza in October 2023. The Iran-backed Houthis have attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea and frequently launched rockets at Israel. Most of these have been intercepted.
In retaliation, Israel has carried out several strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including the strategic port of Hodeidah.
On Sunday, a senior Houthi official, Abdul Qader al-Murtada, said the group would continue its actions in "solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza," adding: "Israel must know that we will not abandon our brothers in Gaza, regardless of the sacrifices."
