Moldova: The female army major and the UN peacekeeping mission

A military officer with the Ministry of Justice, Major Stela Alexandrov chose her career out of a lifelong belief in values such as honesty, integrity, and discipline—principles that have guided her entire career.

She has served as an officer in the National Army since 2009, and is the second person to be profiled in the campaign "The Country is Us," launched by Moldova's public broadcaster, Moldova 1, to mark Independence Day.

In 2023, Major Alexandrov served for 18 months as a military observer in a UN-led peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, representing the Republic of Moldova. The experience solidified her belief that military women have a crucial role in building lasting peace.

"The conflict in the region is a reminder of how fragile peace is and how vital it is to defend it, both at home and abroad," she said. "Every one of us can make a difference, no matter where we are. Through responsibility, courage and a desire to help, we can build a more united and secure society—The Country is Us."

The campaign "The Country is Us" aims to highlight authentic stories of ordinary but remarkable people who, through their hard work, passion, and sense of responsibility, are helping to build the future of the Republic of Moldova. Over the course of this week, 12 people from various fields will be featured on Moldova 1 to share their experiences, the principles they believe in, and the impact they have on their communities.
