Moldova Independence Day 2023: What to know about the celebrations

Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă says festivities will begin at 9:00 AM, with President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean laying flowers at the 'Sorrowing Mother' Monument.
Later, at 10:00 AM, the country’s leaders—including MPs, officials and diplomats—will lay flowers at the Stephen the Great and Holy monument in the city centre. Mr Vodă made the statement following a government meeting on August 26.
The day will also have a significant international dimension, with Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk expected to attend the event in Chișinău.
The leaders will give a joint press statement with President Sandu at the Presidential Palace, before addressing the public from a stage in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN).
An evening concert dedicated to Independence Day will take place in PMAN, starting at 18:00, and will feature artists including Magnat și Feoctist, Satoshi, Irina Rimes, and the band Zdob și Zdub.
Authorities are urging citizens to mark the day in the city centre with their families and friends, highlighting it as an opportunity to celebrate Moldova's unity and its European aspirations.
