Artists from the Republic of Moldova will receive increased support to promote their works across the European Union. On Tuesday, the agreement for our country’s accession to the "Creative Europe" Program was signed. This document plays a significant role in promoting art, culture, and, more recently, the media.

The accession agreement was signed by Sergiu Prodan, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, and Glenn Micallef, the European Commissioner for Intergenerational Equity, Youth, Culture, and Sport. Creative Europe is the European Union's primary funding program designed to support the creative, cultural, and audiovisual sectors, with a budget of 2.4 billion euros allocated for the period from 2021 to 2027.

"The signing of the Accession Agreement to the EU Creative Europe program represents more than just a technical step; it is a declaration of our belonging and a confirmation that our place is within the European family, where culture, creativity, and innovation are dedicated to serving people", said Minister Sergiu Prodan.

European Commissioner Glenn Micallef praised the agreement as an extraordinary achievement. He emphasized, "Starting from January 1, 2026, artists and cultural institutions will have access to this program, and the Republic of Moldova will be exempt from the accession fee."

"This will open doors for us to international collaborations, financial resources, and expertise. Joining this program means we will have the opportunity to compete on an equal footing with the best projects from all European Union member states and to bring home initiatives that transform communities," said Minister Prodan.

While the Republic of Moldova will join the program next year, Moldovan artists have already received recognition through it. Commissioner Micallef highlighted, "Varvara Buzilă, the winner of the Europa Nostra Prize for lifetime achievement in heritage protection, is an example of this success. This prize is co-funded by Creative Europe, and we look forward to celebrating more champions from Moldova in the years to come."

The Creative Europe programme supports projects in architecture, heritage protection, European film festivals, and the music sector. One of the benefits of this programme is that cities in the Republic of Moldova have the opportunity to apply for the title of European Capital of Culture.
