Deputy Prime Minister: Moldova’s EU path backed by all member states

The European path of the Republic of Moldova is "fully supported" by all the member states of the European Union, stated Cristina Gherasimov, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration. She made this declaration during her participation in the informal meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC) held in Copenhagen earlier this week.
An official from Chisinau held several bilateral meetings with counterparts from European Union member states during the event.
Cristina Gherasimov stated, "The Republic of Moldova is not alone, and our European path is fully supported by all the member states of the European Union. This is the message that my counterparts from Italy, France, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and Hungary conveyed to me today."
The Deputy Prime Minister discussed developments in the region and at home with the ministers of European Affairs, including the challenges facing the country ahead of the parliamentary elections on September 28, as well as the reform agenda of the Republic of Moldova and the next steps in the EU accession process.
While the Republic of Moldova's European path is supported by all EU member states, Hungary remains opposed to Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
Hungarian Foreign Minister János Bóka expressed scepticism about Ukraine joining the Union alongside the Republic of Moldova during a statement in Copenhagen. “We support the progress of the Republic of Moldova and oppose any link between the countries, as we believe this is a merit-based process,” Bóka said before the informal meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC) of the Council of the EU, which focused on “Copenhagen Criteria and Gradual Integration.”
We remind you that the 27 European Affairs Ministers of EU member states participated in the Copenhagen meeting. The Republic of Moldova was invited to join the discussions alongside other candidate states for EU accession, represented by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.
