Three Moldovan citizens die in Romania after minibus was hit by car

Three Moldovan citizens died, and another 16 passengers in a minibus died on the morning of Wednesday, September 3, in a road accident between the towns of Santa-Mare and Dămideni in Botoșani County, Romania. The accident occurred around 7:40 a.m.

According to botosaninews.ro, a 48-year-old man from the Republic of Moldova reportedly lost control of his car and crashed into a minibus full of passengers.

As a result of the impact, both the driver of the car and two of his passengers, all Moldovan citizens, died on the spot. The driver and passengers in the minibus suffered multiple injuries and were taken to the hospital by doctors. One person, conscious but in critical condition, was taken by the SMURD helicopter and transported to a specialized hospital in Iași, and 15 - to the Emergency Unit of the Botoșani County Hospital, informs the Botoșani Emergency Situations Inspectorate.

According to Romanian police, the driver from the Republic of Moldova lost control of his car, "on a slight curve" in the commune of Santa-Mare, travelling from Iași to Ștefănești, and crashed into a minibus with passengers travelling in the opposite direction.

"The impact resulted in 19 victims, three of whom died," Romanian police said.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined by police from Romania.
