Carriers from the Republic of Moldova are exempt from the new regulations implemented by the European Union. They are not required to equip their vehicles with G2V2 tachographs to operate within the territory of the community bloc.

The National Road Transport Agency (ANTA) provided clarifications regarding the requirement for vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova that perform international road transport within EU territory. This information was requested from the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission (DG MOVE).

According to DG MOVE's response, the requirement to equip vehicles with G2V2 tachographs only applies to those registered in EU countries or to third countries based on specific international agreements. For Moldovan transport operators, the provisions of the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Goods by Road (AETR) continue to apply, as they have been in force in Moldova since November 22, 1993.

Additionally, amendments to the EU Regulation on tachographs in road transport state that all new vehicles registered in EU Member States must be equipped with the G2V2 smart tachograph. Vehicles previously fitted with the G2V1 version must be upgraded accordingly.

The new smart tachographs feature a tracking device that automatically detects border crossings and allows for real-time transmission of information to control authorities.
