IGSU: Rescuers, firefighters save money and protect environment

Fifteen subdivisions of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) currently have photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of approximately 840 kW. Since 2021, these plants have generated 1,794 MWh of electricity, which is equivalent to over 7.5 million lei at current prices, reads a press release from the institution.

By the end of the year, three additional plants are expected to be connected, increasing the total installed power to nearly 1,000 kW. This expansion will support a quarter of the nation's rescue and fire departments, according to the cited source.
These investments not only help reduce energy costs but also contribute to environmental protection and the energy efficiency goals established by the Republic of Moldova in its relations with the European Union.
Moreover, 98% of the lighting fixtures in the subdivisions of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) were already upgraded to LED, resulting in a significant reduction in electricity bills. Additionally, heat pumps were installed in three locations: Dondușeni, Ocnița, and Căinari. These pumps have replaced natural gas and are integrated with photovoltaic plants to nearly eliminate heating costs, reads the press release.
