Blood Moon 2025: Total lunar eclipse captivates stargazers globally

A spectacular total lunar eclipse, also known as a "Blood Moon," was visible in the skies overnight on September 7-8, 2025.

The event, which captivated professional astronomers and the public alike, was visible across much of the world, including Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and even Antarctica.

The spectacular display was also observed in Moldova. The Moon rose at around 19:45 BST, already partially obscured by Earth's shadow, and was fully in shadow by 20:30 BST, taking on a reddish hue. The eclipse peaked at 21:21 BST, with the Moon fully obscured for 82 minutes.

Experts say the Moon’s reddish appearance is a result of a phenomenon known as "Rayleigh scattering," where sunlight is filtered by Earth's atmosphere.

The event also went viral on social media, with people posting images and videos of the "Blood Moon."

Astronomers say the next total lunar eclipse visible in Moldova and the wider region will not be until 2028.
