Maia Sandu visits Italy and the Holy See, meets Italian leaders and Pope Leo XIV

President Maia Sandu will pay a working visit to Italy and the Holy See from September 10 to 12, 2025. In Rome, the head of state will meet with the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
The agenda for the discussions focuses on strengthening bilateral relations, highlighting Italy's support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, expanding economic cooperation, and aiding the Moldovan community in Italy. President Maia Sandu is also scheduled to meet with the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa.
At the Vatican, the President will meet His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. This dialogue will create an opportunity to exchange views on promoting peace, solidarity, and Christian values in a world facing multiple challenges. Additionally, Maia Sandu will meet with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin.
President Maia Sandu's visit to Italy and the Vatican is part of Moldova's efforts to strengthen external partnerships, ensure peace within the country, and contribute to regional and European security.
