Italy will recognize Moldovan licenses from November 8

Great news for Moldovan citizens residing in Italy! The agreement allowing for the conversion of Moldovan driving licenses in Italy will take effect on November 8, 2025. This announcement was made by President Maia Sandu during her official visit to Rome, which lasts until September 12.
On July 9, 2025, a document was signed in Rome that facilitates the recognition and exchange of all Moldovan driving licenses, eliminating the need for additional exams.
This agreement applies to citizens with permanent residency in Italy and enables a quick and simplified process for exchanging driving documents.
Additionally, the President announced that starting September 1, 2025, Moldovans who have worked in Italy will be eligible for a pension for the years they worked, regardless of whether they choose to remain abroad or return to Moldova.
The President expressed gratitude for Italy's ongoing support and emphasized the intention to continue collaborative efforts to promote peace, well-being, and the European future of citizens.
"I have felt Italy's sincere friendship and support for our country. The connections between our nations are strengthened by the large diaspora, which is respected here for its work, integrity, and contribution to the Italian economy," Maia Sandu stated after her discussions with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa.

The officials discussed the importance of cooperation in maintaining the integrity of electoral processes in the Republic of Moldova, particularly regarding the voting rights of the diaspora in Italy, and combating foreign interference.
The President stated that the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Italy is stronger than ever, highlighting the close collaboration that has taken place over the past four years.
We remind you that Italy has provided approximately 90 million euros in financial support, primarily aimed at social protection and energy efficiency. This includes a significant contribution to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund and support for the installation of tens of thousands of smart meters, which help households in the Republic of Moldova reduce their energy costs.
