The funds, secured by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) through the Interreg NEXT Romania-Republic of Moldova 2021-2027 Programme, will be used to purchase new emergency vehicles, response equipment and for first responder training.

The IGSU unit in Căușeni will receive two off-road vehicles, while the one in Comrat will get five small specialist vehicles. A high-capacity pump truck will also be delivered to Bălți.

Jointly developed with Romanian fire services, the projects also include prevention campaigns and joint exercises to better prepare communities and response teams.

This cross-border cooperation between first responders in both Moldova and Romania is expected to reduce response times and improve citizen safety on both sides of the Prut River.

The initiative marks the first time European projects have been submitted by IGSU's regional units, as part of a decentralisation process aimed at strengthening institutional capacity. The project will be implemented between 2025 and 2027.
