Energy Minister: Cheaper gas decided by ANRE

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu acknowledged that the price consumers pay for gas may decrease. However, he emphasized that the final decision rests with the National Energy Regulatory Agency. His comments were made in light of the lower purchase prices announced by Energocom for the 2025-2026 gas year.

“The estimated weighted average price was published by Energcom, the state enterprise in charge of gas procurement. ANRE is already going to make the respective calculations at that time,” the minister said on Wednesday, September 17, after the Government meeting.

According to Dorin Junghietu, “there is a difference that is going to be adjusted by ANRE”, given that the estimates show lower procurement prices.

At the same time, the minister could not specify how much the tariffs would decrease for consumers. Currently, the population pays 16.74 lei per cubic meter of gas, including VAT.

Energocom, which has already secured almost 91% of its natural gas needs for the upcoming cold season, announced on Tuesday that the average purchase price for the 2025-2026 gas year is forecast at around 38.5 euros/MWh) or 410 euros per thousand cubic meters. The amount also includes the cost of transportation to the Moldova Virtual Trading Point (VTP).

Energy expert Eugen Muravschi commented for Teleradio-Moldova that the average price for the previous gas year was 40 euros/MWh, excluding transportation, “that is, a better price is expected than before, including for the heating season.” Eugen Muravschi emphasized that the price announced by “Energocom” is a forecast. The actual cost will be updated monthly, based on current stock market quotes.
