Gaza conflict: Israeli forces intensify attacks as UN set to recognise Palestine

Israeli forces have intensified their attacks in Gaza City and across the entire Strip, targeting underground tunnels and booby-trapped buildings, according to health authorities run by the Hamas militant group. At least 34 people have been killed, Reuters reports.
Over the past two weeks, Israel has demolished up to 20 tower blocks in Gaza. It estimates around 350,000 people have fled the city since early September, while about 600,000 others remain in shelters in the central and western areas.
The offensive comes as ten countries, including Australia, Belgium, the UK and Canada, are set to formally recognise a Palestinian state at a UN General Assembly meeting on Monday.
On Saturday, the Hamas military wing published an image on Telegram showing some Israeli hostages, warning their lives were in danger because of the offensive.
Authorities in Gaza say nearly two years of war have led to the deaths of more than 65,000 Palestinians, the destruction of most buildings, famine, and the massive displacement of the population.
