ELECTIONS 2025 // Union of the Nation Bloc quits race, backs PAS

The "Union of the Nation" Bloc (BUN) bloc announced that it is withdrawing from the electoral race and supporting the Action and Solidarity Party in this Sunday's parliamentary elections. The decision was made official on Monday, September 22, through an agreement signed by PAS president Igor Grosu and BUN co-presidents Ion Hadârcă and Valentin Dolganiuc.
"Our decision is, in fact, a response to the multiple and frequent calls, justified requests, very well argued, to the pro-European, national political forces, to join efforts in the European integration process. There was no meeting that I attended, along with my colleagues, in the country, in the diaspora, where this topic was not addressed and every time we were asked why the pro-European parties did not join their efforts. Here, today, together with colleagues from the Union of the Nation Electoral Bloc, together with the Action and Solidarity Party, we come with an answer to this call", declared the leader of PAS, Igor Grosu.
The Union of the Nation Bloc decided to withdraw from the campaign taking into account the current geopolitical context, as well as the need to continue the European path of the Republic of Moldova, by consolidating the pro-European forces in the future Parliament, said the leaders of the formation, Valentin Dolganiuc.
"In the current geopolitical context, marked by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and its impact on the stability and security of the Republic of Moldova, the Action and Solidarity Party and the "Unity of the Nation" Electoral Bloc recognize the urgent need to collaborate to ensure a pro-European, stable and democratic future. Aware of the risks represented by retrograde forces that aspire to undermine national sovereignty, the two parties propose to unify their efforts to defend fundamental democratic and European values", emphasized Valentin Dolganiuc.
Through the signed declaration, the BUN commits to mobilize the unionist electorate, to support the Action and Solidarity Party, emphasizing "the importance of a consolidated vote to prevent the return of pro-Russian revanchist forces". The Action and Solidarity Party is committed, in turn, to implementing educational, cultural and informational policies that reflect and promote the historical truth and Romanian identity values, according to the principles established in the Declaration of Independence of August 27, 1991. PAS is also committed to concluding a privileged collaboration agreement with Romania, with the objective of developing a common economic, social, educational and cultural space.
Ion Hadârcă, another leader of the Bloc, expressed his gratitude to his colleagues in the country who devotedly supported the unionist movement. He emphasized that this movement does not end with the withdrawal of the BUN from the elections. On the contrary, it gains new support, of a higher quality. In his view, the Romanian and European dimensions are not mutually exclusive. They are compatible and complement each other.
"We are thwarting the Moscow scenarios of torpedoing and turning the European vector towards the Eastern zone. In this way, we call on all participants in this responsible campaign not to cast any votes. So, this would be our slogan: "no vote for the Putinist octopus!" You realize that, in these circumstances, every vote counts and every action will be assessed by the electorate. I am absolutely certain that we will be understood”, emphasized Ion Hadârcă.
According to the Electoral Code, if a competitor is excluded from the electoral competition or voluntarily gives up participating in the election, the WITHDRAWN stamp is applied to his right on the ballot.
The Union of the Nation Bloc, established in 2025, registered 79 candidates for the parliamentary elections, ranking 18th on the ballot. The alliance brings together two unionist formations: the National Reunification Party “Home” and the National Liberal Party.
