CEC: Over 11,300 left-bank voters cast ballots by 7 p.m.; all polling stations reopened after bomb alerts

By 7:00 p.m., over 11,300 voters from the localities on the left bank of the Nistru cast their votes, according to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). The bomb alerts that targeted polling stations in the eastern districts were confirmed to be false. As a result, those polling stations have resumed their activity, and voting is continuing under secure conditions, announced CEC President Angelica Caraman.
By 7:00 p.m., a total of over 1,475,000 voters had turned up at polling stations in the country and abroad, representing over 48% of those registered on the lists. By comparison, in the early parliamentary elections of July 11, 2021, approximately 1.3 million people (43%) had voted. In the second round of the 2024 presidential election, the turnout was over 1.6 million voters (52.3%).
The most active at the polls were women, who represent 54% of those who had voted by this time. From the perspective of age categories, the most numerous voters were citizens aged between 36 and 45 (23%), followed by those in the 46–55 segment (17.8%).
At polling stations opened abroad, over 233,000 citizens had voted by 7:00 p.m. The busiest polling stations were located in several countries, including Romania, Italy, and the Russian Federation, where between 2,200 and 2,600 voters cast their votes.
Meanwhile, polling stations in China, India and Kazakhstan concluded their activity, and at 8:00 p.m. Moldovan time, those in the United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan will close.
The Central Electoral Commission also reported 217 incidents and violations of electoral legislation. Most cases, 86 in number, concern photographing the ballot, followed by 10 situations of electoral campaigning, nine cases of suspected voter corruption, seven cases of organized transportation, as well as several situations of damage to ballots, unauthorized electoral display or violation of the right to vote.
A new case of ballot removal from the polling station was also documented.
The CEC states that electoral officials are instructed to record all irregularities, and the responsible bodies will determine the circumstances of each case.
