Police expect Monday protest disruptions; three detained

Three individuals, including two brothers who have been under surveillance by law enforcement for nearly two months, were arrested by officers from the National Investigation Inspectorate and the "Fulger" police unit. They are reportedly linked to plans for causing mass disturbances following the elections on September 28.

The detention operation was conducted in coordination with the Intelligence and Security Service and the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS). This operation was part of a criminal investigation into plans for destabilization and mass disorder, specifically aimed at the time immediately after the electoral vote and during the upcoming protest in the capital.

According to the police, the two detained brothers are employees of law enforcement agencies on the left bank of the Nistru. They are identified as the leaders responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and providing logistical support to the protest groups.

During the detentions and searches, various items were discovered with the three suspects, including pyrotechnics and flammable materials. These items were intended to incite panic among the crowd and create chaos.

Police warn of post-election unrest: 'Lawbreaking and threats to citizens won’t be tolerated'

The National Police announced on Sunday evening, September 28, that they have received information about certain groups planning to cause disorder and destabilization in Chisinau, starting at midnight and continuing throughout Monday, when a protest is scheduled to take place in the capital.

Law enforcement agencies have made it clear that they will not tolerate any actions that break the law, disrupt public order, endanger citizens, or threaten national security.

The police reminded event organizers that they are responsible for the behavior at the events they announce and have called on them to act responsibly.

Additionally, law enforcement officials are urging citizens to carefully consider their choices and refrain from participating in illegal activities, warning that such actions could lead to criminal charges.

We remind you that the central electoral authority reported a total of 217 incidents and violations of electoral laws by 7:00 p.m. on election day. The majority of these cases, totalling 86, involved photographing ballots. Other reported violations included 10 instances of electoral campaigning, nine cases of suspected voter bribery, and seven instances of organized transportation of voters. There were also several cases of ballot tampering, unauthorized electoral displays, and violations of the right to vote.

Furthermore, a new incident of ballot removal from a polling station has also been documented.
