Moldovans will head into winter with enough firewood supplies, but at higher prices

The Republic of Moldova will enter the cold season with sufficient stocks of firewood. According to the Moldsilva Agency, 135,000 cubic meters of firewood are already in storage, and by the end of the year, supplies will be replenished with another 117,000 cubic meters.
The deputy director of the Moldsilva Agency, Iulian Mamai, told Radio Moldova that many private suppliers buy firewood from the state forestry enterprises and then resell it on social networks or classified websites.
Prices online range from 1,200 to 1,650 lei, depending on the wood’s hardness and the region. Sellers say firewood will become more expensive once the cold season begins.
Meanwhile, coal prices have already gone up: between 5,100 and 5,300 lei per ton, compared to 4,800 lei last year. Traders told Radio Moldova that the price is set by the exporter and is also affected by higher transport costs.
Radu Avram sells coal at an average of 5,200 lei per ton. He explained that while imports from the Russian Federation previously passed through Ukraine, the route now bypasses it due to the war, with coal reaching Moldova via the Port of Giurgiulești.
We remind you that over 720,000 families received heating cost subsidies last season. The government allocated a total of 2.69 billion lei for this support program.
