PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS 2025 | Lowest turnout reported in Cantemir and Basarabeasca

The voter turnout in the parliamentary elections on September 28, 2025 was almost 4% higher than in the previous election in 2021. On Sunday, the voter turnout from four years ago - 48.3% - was reached about two hours before the polls closed. In total, 1,608,518 voters went to the polls on September 28, according to preliminary data from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), which is almost 128,000 more than in 2021.

Chisinau ranked first in terms of voter turnout, with 375,533 voters or 54.72% of those registered on the electoral lists.

The capital is followed by Criuleni district, where the voter turnout rate was 50.85%, as well as Balti municipality - 50.23%.

On the other hand, the south of the Republic of Moldova remains the area with the lowest voter turnout.

In Cantemir, 18,145 people voted on Sunday, in Basarabeasca - 8,914, in Cimișlia - 19,131, and in Hâncești - 38,881 voters.

Districts with the lowest voter turnout rates:

A significant change concerns voters in the Transnistrian region. While in 2021 about 30,000 citizens voted at the 41 polling stations opened on the right bank, in 2025 the number of voters dropped to 12,226.

This time, 12 polling stations were organized for voters on the left bank of the Nistru, with the authorities citing major risks to national security.


We remind you that the Republic of Moldova held its new Parliamentary Elections on September 28, 2025, during the ordinary elections for the designation of 101 deputies to the 12th Legislature.

PAS scored 50.20% of the votes (792,557 voters), the "Patriotic" Bloc - 24.17% (381,505), the "Alternative" Bloc - 7.96% (125,685), the Our Party - 6.20% (97,852), and the "Democracy at Home" Party - 5.62% (88,679).

According to the estimates of the ADEPT Center, these results would bring PAS 55 mandates in the future Parliament, 26 to the "Patriotic" Bloc, eight to the "Alternative" Bloc, and six mandates each to the Our Party and the "Democracy at Home" Party.
