A direct train service running the Kyiv-Ungheni-Bucharest North route and back is set to begin on 10 October 2025.

The international service IR 402/100 from Bucharest North (departs 19:10) to Kyiv (arrives 19:34) will run from 11/12 October 2025.
CFR Călători, Romania's state railway passenger operator, stated in a press release that a one-way ticket for the Bucharest North-Kyiv route, in a four-berth sleeper compartment, is priced at €73.4.
A first test run between Bucharest and Kyiv is currently being carried out, and if successful, the international train will resume service after a break of over five years. The journey is expected to take more than 30 hours, according to the news outlet Hotnews.
Before the war, there were also discussions about introducing short-haul services between Suceava and Chernivtsi, but the plans never materialised.
