Rabies case in Târzieni, rising bird flu risk: ANSA issues farmer guidelines

The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) reports a confirmed case of rabies in a dog from Târzieni, Orhei district, last week. Authorities assure that they have applied quarantine and veterinary control measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
At the same time, the institution reports that all outbreaks of African swine fever in the Hâncești district were eradicated during the same period. At the national level, only one outbreak remained active, in the Fălești district, which is in an advanced phase of eradication.
However, ANSA draws attention to the increased risk of avian influenza in the context of several outbreaks emerging in European countries and urges farmers and the population to adhere to biosecurity measures.
Among the ANSA recommendations are keeping birds in closed yards without access to lakes or ponds, feeding them in covered spaces, limiting strangers' access to households, and separating birds from pigs to avoid the transmission of the virus.
Citizens are urged to notify the veterinarian or local authorities in the event of signs of illness or death among birds. At the same time, the Agency warns that bird flu can also be transmitted to humans, which is why it is important to follow personal hygiene rules, wash your hands frequently, and purchase meat and egg products only from authorized establishments.
In the event of a confirmed outbreak of bird flu, all birds in the affected household will be slaughtered, and the contaminated premises and materials will be destroyed and disinfected.
Affected owners benefit from compensation from the state.
