Man in Fălești jailed for violating a restraining order

A 37-year-old man was sentenced to five months in prison, to be served in a semi-closed penitentiary, for failing to comply with protective measures mandated in a domestic violence case. The sentence was issued by the Bălți Court based in Falesti.
On July 1, the court issued a restraining order against a man, prohibiting him from coming within 50 meters of the home where his wife and son were staying. He was also banned from any form of contact with them, whether in person or by phone, for a period of three months.
However, while intoxicated, the man repeatedly violated the order by going to the family home. Although he did not physically assault his wife, he verbally insulted her and provoked arguments.
The sentence can be appealed to the Nord Court of Appeal within 15 days of its issuance.
Liliana Istrati, an expert from the "La Strada" Center, previously explained to Moldova 1 TV that women who are victims of domestic violence find it very challenging to escape the cycle of abuse. They often face multiple forms of violence, including physical, psychological, economic, and recurring daily abuse.
Since the beginning of the year, 967 cases of domestic violence were reported, which is a 9.5% increase compared to 2024.
