Romania and Germany back swift EU enlargement for Moldova and Ukraine

Romania has reiterated its strong support for the European Union’s enlargement process, focusing on the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and the Western Balkans.
The commitment was reaffirmed by Oana Ţoiu, the Romanian Foreign Minister, during talks with Germany’s Johann Wadephul in Bucharest on Tuesday. The two ministers discussed key issues including support for Ukraine and Moldova, European security, Black Sea cooperation, and developments in the Middle East.
Bucharest and Berlin shared a "common responsibility" in strengthening the EU by integrating Eastern European neighbours who share European values and aspirations.
Ms Ţoiu said the two nations "maintain a constant political dialogue" on bilateral issues, EU topics, and the bloc's enlargement. As NATO and EU members, Romania and Germany "have a solid, trusting dialogue" and substantial cooperation, particularly in the economic, political and defence fields.
The minister noted that Germany remains Romania’s most important commercial partner, with over 20% of total exports, and the country’s main foreign investor. Ms Ţoiu also noted German companies’ growing involvement in developing vocational training (dual system) and mentioned common interest in tourism cooperation, with Germany being the main source of foreign tourists.
She also thanked the German Air Force for taking part in the Nato Enhanced Air Policing (eAP) missions in Romania, highlighting the importance of cultural links between the Romanian community in Germany and ethnic Germans in Romania.
In the Middle East, she welcomed the deal between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas to implement the first stage of the comprehensive peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, saying the step was "important for regional stability".
