EU grants Moldova access to AI supercomputers and cutting-edge research platforms

Researchers and entrepreneurs from the Republic of Moldova will have access to high-performance computing infrastructures due to the country’s accession to the European initiative "AI Factories." This strategic program of the European Union is focused on the development and utilization of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructures.

Our country will be represented in this network by FAIMA – Moldova’s Artificial Intelligence Factory Antenna, one of the 13 antennas selected by EuroHPC, the joint European initiative for high-performance computing.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, Moldova’s participation in the program will ensure access to supercomputers, secure data resources and modern platforms dedicated to research and innovation in the field of AI.

Through FAIMA, the scientific community, the business environment and public institutions will be connected to the European supercomputing network, facilitating the transition to an economy based on technology and innovation.

This initiative will allow researchers and startups to participate in pan-European projects, benefiting from expertise, modern infrastructure and international collaborations. At the same time, Moldova will strengthen its position on the digital map of Europe, contributing to the creation of a future based on knowledge and technological progress.

The European Union will invest approximately 55 million euros in the network of new AI antennas, with national contributions from the EuroHPC participating states also added. Each antenna will collaborate with an existing European artificial intelligence factory. FAIMA will be connected to the PIAST Factory in Poland, which will facilitate the exchange of experience, technical support and the development of joint projects between researchers and startups in the region.

“Through FAIMA, the Republic of Moldova is taking a decisive step towards integration into the European digital innovation network. It is a real opportunity for researchers, startups and companies to access advanced computing resources and develop artificial intelligence solutions with economic and social impact,” said Deputy Prime Minister Doina Nistor, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.

Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research, noted that "the launch of FAIMA represents an essential step for strengthening national research and innovation capacities in the field of artificial intelligence": "Access to high-performance infrastructures will allow students, researchers and startups from the Republic of Moldova to develop technological solutions of international level".

The launch of FAIMA is the result of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Commission, a collaboration intensified following the visit to Chisinau in July 2025 by Henna Virkkunen, Vice-President of the Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy. At the same time, this initiative confirms the European Union's support for the digital integration of the Republic of Moldova and its approach to the European Digital Single Market.
