Maia Sandu: Peace, justice reform and EU accession, the priorities of the future Government of the Republic of Moldova

President Maia Sandu emphasizes that the reform of the judiciary should be a top priority for the future government. She also affirms that gaining accession to the European Union is as crucial as enhancing economic conditions. Furthermore, she highlights that achieving peace and ensuring the withdrawal of the Russian army from the Republic of Moldova are key objectives for Chisinau.
"The message from the people is clear: they want peace to be sustained, which is the most important objective. They are eager to see the acceleration of justice reform so that we can complete it. Additionally, they wish to continue development programs that will prepare Moldova for European Union accession while simultaneously improving the economic situation," said the head of state on Rlive.
According to Maia Sandu, the Republic of Moldova wants peace, and the Kremlin is launching accusations against Chisinau, after the new Military Strategy was approved because "it is shocked" by the results of the elections on September 28.
“I noticed that, after the elections, Moscow was silent for a few days. It was shocked that we managed to defend our sovereignty and organise the elections in such a way that Moldovans would decide for the Republic of Moldova. After a few days, they came up with all kinds of accusations. (...) We do not get involved in the elections in the Russian Federation and we demand that the Russian Federation do the same. There are no risks other than those of these hybrid interferences. The scaremongering will continue, including these disrespectful statements towards the Republic of Moldova. We are a peaceful country. When they accuse us of wanting to protect ourselves, they should look into their budget to see how much they have increased their military spending and why military budgets are increasing, because they are preparing or financing endless war, to the detriment of the living standards of the people in the Russian Federation”, Maia Sandu pointed out.
The head of state added that the government of the Republic of Moldova is investing in schools, roads, and health systems but is also strengthening its capabilities to protect citizens from the possible fall of Russian drones on the country's territory on their way to targets in Ukraine.
In the same program, President Maia Sandu stated that a priority for the Republic of Moldova must also be to stimulate economic growth and attract investments, as the national economy is affected by long-term structural factors and the impact of the war in Ukraine.
"Accession to the EU will mean a solution for economic development, because it will attract investments in infrastructure and will provide a positive signal to investors. Our country will be seen as safe, stable, part of European rules", concluded the head of state.
