Elections

Residents of Leova and Călinești elect new mayors and councilors

Residents of six communes, villages, and cities in the Republic of Moldova will vote on November 16 to elect their mayors. In two of these locations, which have participated in the voluntary amalgamation process, residents will also elect local councilors.

More precisely, in a month, the residents of the city of Leova in the district of the same name, those of Nataliaevca commune, Fălești district, of Călinești commune, Fălești district, of Kremenciu commune, Soroca district, as well as those of the villages of Bașcalia, Basarabeasca district, and Ustia in Glodeni district will go to the polls.

In total, 12 candidates were registered for the position of mayor – ten nominated by parties and two independents, as well as seven electoral competitors for the position of councilor in the local council, who proposed 78 candidates.

In the village of Bașcalia, only one candidate was registered for the position of mayor, and he was an independent. In the other localities, two or three people are running for the leadership of the city halls.

The Action and Solidarity Party and the Socialist Party each have three candidates in the electoral race. The Development and Consolidation Party of Moldova has two candidates, the League of Cities and Communes has one, and the other two are independents.

We remind you that the city of Leova and the commune of Călinești in the Fălești district will also elect their local councils, following the voluntary amalgamation process. Thus, the city of Leova will form a single administrative unit together with the villages of Sârma, Tochile-Răducani and Sărata-Răzeși, and the commune of Călinești in the Fălești district will be consolidated by including the commune of Chetriș and the village of Hâncești.

"It is an absolutely voluntary process, initiated by four mayors from the Leova district, who decided and realized that together it is easier than each one separately, that the problems of citizens have been much more complex lately, and the tools to solve this problem are increasingly scarce. We are facing an acute lack of trained personnel, especially in attracting investments and extra-budgetary funds", previously said the mayor of Leova, Alexandru Bujorean, who is running for a new term on November 16.
