Over 25,000 people benefited from free Romanian language courses, funded by the state

This year, nearly 8,300 people have participated or are currently participating in free Romanian language courses offered through the National Program for Learning the Romanian Language. This program is managed by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) and has been running for the third consecutive year.
According to the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), interest in the language program has surpassed expectations. While 5,000 spots were initially planned, 8,281 adults from various professional backgrounds enrolled in the courses this year.
At the conclusion of these courses, participants are evaluated on their language skills, and the level they achieve is noted on a certificate issued in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This certificate can provide advantages for job applications or further studies.
Since the initiative was launched, approximately 25,000 individuals have benefited from free Romanian language courses.
Currently, authorities are working on the National Program for Learning Romanian for the period 2026 to 2029.
Additionally, the MEC has announced approval of the regulatory framework for multilingual education. This allows educational institutions to introduce subjects taught in multiple languages.
"This approach contributes to the development of students' intercultural communication skills, and several schools have already expressed their intention to implement the new framework," the MEC reports.
