Waste management infrastructure recognized as a project of national public utility

The "Solid Waste in the Republic of Moldova" project is making significant progress toward implementation. The preliminary research commission, responsible for declaring public utility projects of national interest, has recently decided that the creation of waste management infrastructure can be recognized as works of public utility at the national level, as announced by the Ministry of Environment.
According to the institution, this decision will facilitate achieving the state's strategic objectives for developing a modern, sustainable national-level waste management infrastructure.
The ministry specifies that the project has registered significant progress so far. The most advanced are Region 5 (Ungheni, Nisporeni and Călărași) and Region 8 (Briceni, Edineț, Dondușeni and Ocnița), where tenders have already been launched to select the company that will design and build the waste management infrastructure.
Also, in Region 4 (Chisinau, Straseni, Ialoveni, Hancesti, Criuleni, Anenii Noi and Orhei), Region 7 (Balti, Drochia, Rascani, Glodeni, Floresti, Falesti, Sangerei, Soroca, Soldanesti, Rezina and Telenesti) and Region 2 (Leova, Cimişlia, Basarabeasca, Causeni and Stefan-Vodă) the feasibility study is being developed.
In Region 1 (Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, Ceadîr-Lunga, Vulcăneşti and ATU Gagauzia – Comrat) the regional sanitation operator is in the process of being created, which will ensure the collection and treatment of waste for a cleaner and safer region from an ecological point of view.
The government remains firmly committed to completing this complex project, so that the Republic of Moldova has a modern waste management system, for the benefit of the population, local communities and the environment, reads the cited source.
