Government reshuffle: Alexandru Iacub becomes Deputy Secretary General, Radu Vrabie takes over Customs Service
Alexandru Iacub is stepping down from his role as the leader of the Customs Service to become the Deputy Secretary General of the Government, starting on November 6. This decision was approved during the first meeting of the new Government on Wednesday, November 5. During the same meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers also supported the appointment of Radu Vrabie as the new Director of the Customs Service.
On November 5, Alexei Buzu was confirmed by the Government as Secretary General of the Executive. He praised Alexandru Iacub as a professional and expressed confidence that Iacub will help the government team align with citizens' expectations.
Buzu also expressed appreciation for Iacub's leadership at the Customs Service, highlighting the progress made by the authority during his tenure. He stated, "The most notable achievement has been the implementation of the new computerized transit system, which I would describe as 'a step into the EU customs space.' We have a solid foundation for transit operations, ensured at the highest level. We have also witnessed significant advancements in the fight against fraud."
Regarding the new director of the Customs Service, Buzu noted that Iacub is a professional with nearly 20 years of experience, having held leadership roles in both the private sector and international development programs. "We are confident that his expertise and knowledge will help us to modernize the Customs Service further," he added.
During the same meeting, the Cabinet approved several dismissals based on submitted requests. Corneliu Cirimpei resigned from his position as State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Ana Calinici stepped down as Secretary General of the Government, and Gheorghe Hajder left his role as State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment.
Additionally, Dumitru Pâslaru was confirmed for the permanent position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. Pâslaru, who previously held this position, was recognized for his professionalism by Minister Natalia Plugaru.
