Russian drone crashes in Romania near Grindu after Danube port attacks

A Russian drone crash occurred on Romanian territory, near the village of Grindu, Tulcea County, approximately five kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

The incident took place overnight from November 10 to 11, amid a new wave of Russian Federation air attacks targeting Ukrainian Danube ports, as confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense of Romania (MApN).

Military radars detected multiple groups of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the zone adjacent to the national airspace. This prompted the preventive activation of Romanian air defense systems. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions, Air Policing combat service aircraft were unable to take off.

At 00:07, Romanian authorities issued a RO-Alert message to residents in northern Tulcea County. This followed reports of explosions on the Ukrainian bank of the Danube, specifically near the crucial port of Izmail.

According to the MApN, an aerial vehicle's impact with the ground was signaled at 01:09 in the Grindu area. Military personnel were deployed immediately to the scene, where they identified possible UAV fragments. The perimeter was secured, and on-site investigations are scheduled for the early morning hours.

Romania, a NATO member state, has been repeatedly compelled to respond after Russian drone fragments fell on its territory. These incidents follow relentless Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure in the Danube region. Since the start of summer, Moscow has intensified strikes on the ports of Reni and Izmail, situated just a short distance from the Romanian border, in an effort to block Ukraine's vital grain export route.

Romanian authorities constantly monitor the volatile situation. They are collaborating closely with NATO partners to strengthen air security along the shared border.
