Moldova takes over Council of Europe presidency for six months; Mihai Popșoi heads to Strasbourg

Beginning November 14, the Republic of Moldova will assume the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. To mark this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will make a working visit to Strasbourg on Friday. During this visit, he will chair the Committee of Ministers.

Mihai Popșoi will participate in the ceremony to raise the flag of the Republic of Moldova at Place de la République in Strasbourg. He will also inaugurate a tram featuring the Presidency's logo. During this event, the official will present the priorities that our country will advocate for during its mandate.

The Committee of Ministers is the main decision-making body of the Council of Europe, responsible for implementing the organization’s objectives. Each member state is represented within the Council by its Minister of Foreign Affairs or by a permanent representative to the Council of Europe.

The Presidency of the Committee of Ministers rotates among member states in alphabetical order, for a period of six months.

The mandate of the Republic of Moldova will run from November 14, 2025, to May 15, 2026.

This will be the second time the Republic of Moldova has held this responsibility, the first being in 2003.
