Moldova: Police seize $24,000 worth of unauthorized food supplements

Food supplements were illegally imported into the Republic of Moldova and sold domestically without state authorisation, police say.
Following a police operation, authorities made arrests and seized a large quantity of unauthorized supplements and medicinal preparations. The confiscated products are valued at more than 450,000 Moldovan lei (approximately £21,000; €24,000) on the illicit market.
Cash obtained from the sales was also recovered during a search of one suspect's residence.
Police reported that the group did not hold the necessary licenses and allegedly claimed the products treated a range of serious health conditions, including obesity, high blood pressure, and heart conditions. The items were primarily advertised and sold via social media platforms.
The sale of these unregistered products constitutes a clear violation of national health regulations, including the Sanitary Regulation on Food Supplements and the Law on Pharmaceutical Activity.
The preparations were reportedly sold at significantly inflated prices, ranging from 6,000 lei to 16,000 lei per unit on the illicit market.
Investigations are continuing to determine the precise origin of the products and to identify all individuals involved in the scheme.
