A new edition of the national food collection, titled "Good in your basket," mobilized thousands of volunteers eager to help those in need. On this day, they collected food items that will be distributed to social canteens and day care centers for both adults and children. This initiative not only supports people in need but also helps reduce food waste.

Residents of the capital who went shopping on Saturday had the opportunity to participate in a meaningful charitable campaign.

“I know that food prices are quite high right now, and not everyone can afford the essentials. That is why I decided to join this wonderful initiative,” one participant shared.

“Many people, especially as the winter holidays approach, cannot buy the products they need. I contributed canned goods, cereals, and sweets,” another shopper stated.

“We must help everyone. The New Year is coming, and everyone deserves to be happy,” another donor emphasized.

When asked about their contributions, one individual explained, “We may have only given a little, but we made donations for those in need. I bought flour pastries, two types of sugar, and cereals—items that are essential for older adults.”

“As the winter holidays near, it would be nice to contribute to some joy in their lives,” they added.

The donated food products will be distributed to 97 social canteens, daycare centers, and placement facilities for children and adults. These items will be used to prepare hot meals for thousands of people in need.

"The number of beneficiaries is unfortunately increasing. We know that around 30% of the population in the Republic of Moldova lives below the poverty line, and through the services we support, we try to make their lives easier. The needs are significant, and with rising prices, we are able to prepare hot lunches using the donated products, promoting healthier eating,” explained Oleg Paraschiv, director of the "Food Bank" Association.

Volunteers visit 25 stores nationwide to collect donations. Last year, nine stores participated in the campaign and food products for 15,000 hot lunches were gathered.
