From father to son: the Bostan family cultivates a thousand hectares in Schineni

In the Schineni commune of the Soroca district, three generations of the Bostan family are engaged in agriculture. Their tradition of farming, passed down from father to son, has become an inspiring example for the entire community. The Bostan family now runs a modern agricultural business, managing nearly a thousand hectares of land with tractors and advanced machinery.

Mihail Bostan is 84 years old and works alongside his son and grandchildren. He learned to drive a tractor at a young age.

“What is this technology today? It is not the same as it was before. Now, a tractor can perform multiple tasks, but back then, you could only do one job with a tractor,” he states.

In recent years, modern technology has become essential for agriculture.

“At the moment, we are using modern technologies. Subsidies have been crucial to us, and they remain important because we have undertaken projects for self-guided tractors and front loaders. We receive state subsidies of approximately 50%. Given the current expenses, it is very difficult to purchase equipment at full price,” explains farmer Iurie Bostan.

Mihail Bostan persuaded his sons to remain in the country.

"Every morning, we wake up and gather as a family. One of us drives the tractor, another carries diesel to the combine, and the third searches for parts and tires," says Mihail Bostan. "My love for the land comes from my father."

"We take pride in having a large, united family, and we all work together," adds farmer Constantin Bostan.
