Anenii Noi family celebrates 14th birth — mother is also a grandmother to five

Lilia Balan, a 48-year-old woman from the Anenii Noi district, has welcomed her 14th child, a perfectly healthy baby girl. She gave birth at the Maternity Hospital of the "Gheorghe Paladi" Municipal Clinical Hospital in Chisinau. The newborn was delivered on Wednesday, December 3, through a complex cesarean section, which proceeded without complications.
Both the mother and child are doing well and are under medical supervision.
The baby girl weighs nearly 3.8 kg and has been given the first name Nelly.
“Doctors generally consider such pregnancies to be risky, as the placenta was subjected to stress on multiple occasions, which can lead to hemorrhages at any time. In this case, there was a mild and short hemorrhage, which was not very complicated; however, it did require a complex cesarean section, necessitating the involvement of an entire medical team. The team showcased high professionalism, dedication, and skill—qualities characteristic of the obstetric department at Gheorghe Paladi Hospital. Overall, the birth was smooth, the mother is recovering well, and she is already able to move around,” stated Ana Ursu, the maternity spokeswoman, in an interview with Teleradio Moldova.
Adding to the mother's joy is the fact that she is now a grandmother five times, which brings even more happiness to the family.

According to hospital representatives, cases of multiple births, such as those involving three or more children, are quite rare. Additionally, births to women who already have several children are infrequent.
"Although we have seen multiple births in our institution this year, including those involving women giving birth for the fourth, fifth, or even tenth time, such cases remain uncommon and are celebrated by our team. Naturally, the involvement of the medical staff is significant in these situations,” said the spokeswoman.
When discussing the age of women who choose to have more children, maternity representatives noted that there are no strict statistics, but there have been instances where 35-year-old women have had seven children. Ultimately, it depends on the parents' desire to expand their families.
The maternity team underscores that each birth, regardless of its complexity, is handled with the utmost attention and professionalism to ensure the safety of both the mother and the child.
