Chișinău Christmas market opens with 15-meter tree and festive atmosphere
Chișinău has officially launched its annual holiday celebrations. A towering 15-meter Christmas tree was inaugurated in the center of the capital.

The traditional Chișinău Christmas market—complete with mulled wine, traditional pies, and local treats—was set up around the tree, much to the delight of visitors who gathered for the winter fun.
The centerpiece, installed in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN), is richly decorated with multi-colored garlands and ornaments. Market visitors can warm up instantly with a glass of steaming mulled wine. Children and adults can also enjoy the ice rink centrally located in the heart of the capital.
The crowds gathered in the Square described the scene as magical:
"It's very magical. It's the first time for my daughter, and for us, this is a true winter fairy tale."
Another resident, who brought their children, noted the improved setting: "I came especially today to surprise the kids. Honestly, it's my first time bringing them. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Even though it's a little cold, we are still trying to warm up. The decorations are beautiful compared to previous years. This year seems more beautifully organized."
"It's a winter holiday. The holidays have arrived, we are very happy."
Within the wooden stalls, local Moldovan producers are showcasing their best goods.
"Chicken meat, mulled wine, and no one serves a glass of mulled wine without a traditional pie with cheese and homemade greens," said seller Natalia Borta.
Andrei Pîslaru, a honey and tea vendor, stated: "We have several types of honey in our assortment: acacia, linden, sage, and rapeseed. We also produce sea buckthorn tea, and we welcome visitors, eager to warm them with sea buckthorn tea."
"At the market, I am present with ceramic products, both traditional and decorative. Everything here can be purchased as a gift for loved ones, friends, family, or as a personal treat," mentioned merchant Iarîna Savițkaia.
Mayor Ion Ceban addressed the arrangements but did not specify the total budget for the market's setup.
"Practically all squares and important public areas are arranged by the Chișinău City Hall in the spirit of the winter holidays. Regarding the budget, we will total it at the end. Many people and economic agents are involved through sponsorship, and the final figure will be made public."
He concluded: "Come here with us to enjoy the magic of the winter holidays and wish everyone a beautiful new year. Merry Christmas!"
The Chișinău Christmas market will run until January 18. Traditionally, the Chișinău City Hall would inaugurate the Christmas Tree in the Great National Assembly Square on December 1, following the custom of most European capitals.
