Moldova calls on Tiraspol to align Transnistrian statistics with Chisinau methodology

The authorities on the left bank of the Nistru continue to cite alleged difficulties faced by some economic agents in the region in conducting their business activities. In response, Chisinau maintains that the existing regulatory framework is applied uniformly and non-discriminatorily across the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova.

On December 16, members of the Chisinau delegation provided a response at a joint meeting of the economic working groups, which included statistical experts from both banks of the Nistru. The meeting was held at the OSCE Mission in Tighina.

The Bureau for Reintegration Policies (BPR) reports that Chisinau’s experts presented the outcomes of recent discussions within the framework of the Republic of Moldova–European Union Association Committee, specifically regarding trade. They emphasized the country’s commitment to uniformly applying EU standards incorporated into national legislation—covering internal market operations, tariff quotas, trade rules, agricultural notifications, product promotion, and more—across the entire country.

“The transposition of European legislation is not merely a technical requirement but a crucial step in aligning national mechanisms with EU standards, facilitating access to the single European market. Approaches and actions in this regard must be uniform on both banks of the Nistru,” BPR stated.

Chisinau representatives also urged Tiraspol officials to adopt European methodologies and practices in statistics, coordinating the collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of data to ensure that statistical indicators on both banks of the Nistru comply with international standards.

We remind you that the official statistical data of the Republic of Moldova do not include the Transnistrian region, which remains outside the control of the constitutional authorities.
