Moldova Parliament appoints Uliana Bădărău to state audit office

The Parliament of Moldova voted on December 18 to appoint Uliana Bădărău as a new member of the Court of Accounts, the country’s supreme financial watchdog. She replaces Eduard Moroșan, whose five-year term has concluded.

Bădărău secured the support of 58 deputies. Following the vote, she was sworn in with a pledge to protect public property and uphold democratic values.

During the plenary session, the new member emphasized a shift toward results-driven oversight. Rather than just filing reports, she committed to bridging the gap between audit findings and actual policy changes, ensuring that the institution's recommendations lead to concrete improvements in how public authorities operate.

Bădărău also highlighted the need to modernize the profession, proposing new mechanisms to boost recruitment and make state auditor roles more competitive for top-tier financial talent.

The Court of Accounts is the nation's highest audit body, responsible for monitoring how every penny of taxpayer money is collected, managed, and spent. The institution consists of seven members, each serving five-year terms.

With this latest appointment, the Court continues its work under the leadership of President Tatiana Șevciuc, who was appointed in March 2024. The current board includes specialists appointed between 2022 and 2025, ensuring a mix of institutional memory and new oversight priorities.
