Academy of Sciences of Moldova summarizes 2025 and awards research excellence

On Friday, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) reflected on the year 2025 and presented awards for exceptional achievements across various scientific fields. While the event had a festive atmosphere, celebrating significant contributions to science and culture, scientists also highlighted pressing current issues.

The awards gala began with a performance of carols by the Academy of Arts choir. This was followed by the presentation of diplomas and medals recognizing achievements in various fields of research. Adrian Ghicov took to the podium to discuss activities promoting the work of Eminescu.

“The Eminescu Year involved large-scale activities, including scientific initiatives and student training to promote Eminescu's contributions,” emphasized Adrian Ghicov, head of the department at "Ion Creangă" Pedagogical University.

“I am passionate about my field, which focuses on the physics of durability and plasticity across a wide range of materials. Currently, we are also working on biomedicine, specifically materials for bone implants,” explained Olga Şikimaka, director of the Institute of Applied Physics.

At the end of the year, researchers identified economic challenges that could be addressed through scientific solutions.

“We are currently in a position to recover from the crises that have affected us, including the pandemic, economic issues, and energy crises. Therefore, our research is directed towards enhancing the resilience of the agricultural and energy sectors,” stated ASEM Rector Alexandru Stratan.

“Our previous focus has been on productivity, and we have paid less attention to the condition of our soil. However, we have discovered that our soils are unhealthy. It is crucial that we rehabilitate soil health,” emphasized Boris Boincean, PhD in Agricultural Sciences.

“This year, we successfully unified the scientific community, both domestically and at a European level, and even throughout the Romanian space. Alongside the Romanian Academy, we launched the Eminescu Year and celebrated Romanian Language Day and National Culture Day together,” noted Ion Tighineanu, president of ASM.
