Snowfall hits northern and central Moldova on Christmas Eve; road crews deployed

New Year's Eve brought winter weather to the Republic of Moldova. On the night of Tuesday, December 24, to Wednesday, snowfall affected the northern and central regions of the country, leading to icy road conditions. The National Road Administration (AND) has announced that road workers are actively on duty and addressing any issues as needed.
To ensure safe traffic conditions, the teams from "Drumuri" S.A. were mobilized overnight.
Road workers cleared snow and spread anti-skid materials on roads in the districts of Briceni, Ocnița, Edineț, Florești, Bălți, Sângerei, Dondușeni, Orhei, Drochia, Glodeni, Râșcani, Soroca, Călărași, and other areas across the country.
In total, 47 pieces of specialized equipment and 68 workers were involved in these efforts. To combat ice, over 350 tons of salt and one ton of anti-skid material were applied.
Currently, traffic on national roads is being maintained under winter conditions, and intervention crews remain active in the area.
In light of this, the National Road Administration recommends that road users:
- Drive with caution
- Adjust their speed according to road conditions
- Ensure their vehicles are appropriately equipped for winter
