MEC: Students to return to classes on January 9 or 12 after winter vacation

Students in all general education institutions across the country have been on winter break since December 25. They will return to classes on either January 9 or January 12, depending on the decisions made by school administrations.
The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) announces that the resumption of lessons for the second semester will be determined individually by each educational institution, after consulting with the entire educational community.
"If classes are rescheduled to resume on January 12, 2026, each institution will decide how to make up for the lessons missed from Friday, January 9, 2026, until the end of the academic year," states the MEC.
In light of the holiday season, the authorities encourage students and teachers to enjoy this special time with their loved ones.
"Experience the magic of the holidays and take care of yourselves. Adhering to safety and protection guidelines is important for a peaceful holiday," the ministry's message reads.
Students in the Republic of Moldova enjoy four holidays during the school year. Before the summer vacation in 2026, there will be a spring vacation from March 5 to 8, followed by an Easter vacation from April 11 to 20.
In the municipality of Chisinau, extracurricular institutions will remain active during the Christmas vacation, and the 13 creative centers for students will host thematic activities specific to winter.
According to local authorities, approximately 15,000 children have already registered for these activities.
