Construction waste may be used for road repairs under a regulation open for public debate

Construction and demolition waste can now be collected separately, sorted, and recycled. Materials that meet quality standards can also be reused, including in the construction and rehabilitation of roads.

The draft regulation concerning the management of construction and demolition waste is currently in the public consultation phase.

According to the Ministry of Environment, this document is designed to create a regulatory framework for the collection, transportation, and storage of waste. These activities will only be permitted to authorized agents operating in specially equipped facilities.

So far, proposals for implementing the new rules and control mechanisms have been submitted by foreign experts and industry stakeholders.

The aim of these measures is to minimize the uncontrolled storage of construction waste, encourage recycling, and enhance environmental protection.

This regulation, which is open for public consultation, is being developed with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova as part of the project "Facilitating an Inclusive Green Transition in the Republic of Moldova." The project's goal is to strengthen a sustainable waste management system.
