Warning: FAKE! Citizens receive SMS messages about an alleged “unpaid road toll”

Authorities are warning that a fraud scheme has been identified, illegally using MPay and EVO identities. Citizens are receiving SMS messages about an alleged "outstanding toll" and are urged to access a link.

The Electronic Governance Agency stated that the link in question is not affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Moldova and is part of a phishing attempt to fraudulently collect personal and banking information.

The official platform for tax payments is mpay.gov.md. Neither MPay nor EVO sends unauthorised SMS links requesting urgent tax payments.

Citizens are advised to always verify that they are using the official domain "gov.md."

Please do not enter personal or banking information on unfamiliar websites. If you receive such a message, do not click on the link and report it immediately to [email protected] or cyber.sec@.
