Tudora drone posed higher explosion risk; police warn citizens

A drone discovered in Tudora, located in the Stefan Voda district, was found to contain extremely dangerous cargo. In light of this, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, the head of the General Inspectorate of Police (IGP), is urging citizens to avoid approaching such objects and to contact the authorities immediately if they encounter one. This warning follows an incident in which a man filmed the drone he found near his home and approached it, unaware of the potential risks.

According to Cernăuțeanu, the drone was equipped with over 2,000 metal balls capable of causing significant damage if it were to explode. Additionally, the device was active and connected to a power source, increasing the danger.

"It poses a major risk. I even witnessed an incident where a citizen approached such an object, putting not only their own life but also the lives of others at risk, because the potential for that drone to explode was far greater compared to many others that have been detected in the Republic of Moldova," said the head of the IGP during a TVR Moldova program.

The head of the IGP emphasized that regardless of whether the contents of such an object are known, citizens must act with extreme caution and refrain from intervening.

"It is crucial that any information of this nature, regardless of whether we know if it carries cargo or not, is treated responsibly. The first action people should take is to call 112 so that the appropriate authorities can respond and eliminate the risks," he stated.

More than 100 personnel from the IGP, Border Police, Ministry of Defense, and IGSU were mobilized to neutralize the device. Following the intervention, the cargo was destroyed in a controlled explosion after adhering to all security procedures.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the drone detected this morning in the village of Tudora, within the Ștefan Vodă district, contained approximately 50 kilograms of explosives and was identified as a Gheran-2 (Shahed-136) type.

We remind you that another drone fell on the territory of the Republic of Moldova on the morning of March 14, in the Cimislia district, near the village of Troitcoe. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly condemned the overflight of the Republic of Moldova's airspace, labeling the incident a serious violation of the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
