Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy launches a new master’s program in healthcare promotion
A new full-time master's program titled "Health Promotion and Protection" was introduced at the "Nicolae Testemitanu" State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USFM). This program is the first of its kind in the Republic of Moldova, and its aim is to train specialists in community-level health promotion and in the development of public health policy.
The mission of the program is to train competitive specialists for the labor market who will provide health promotion, prevention, and education services, conduct scientific research, and engage in lifelong professional development. This was stated by Dr. Serghei Cebanu, head of the Preventive Medicine Department at USFM, during the morning show "Bună Dimineața" on Moldova 1.
This initiative addresses the rising number of public health emergencies and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
"We need well-trained specialists who can develop policies in this field, assess risk factors, and create and implement national health promotion programs," Dr. Cebanu said.
The program is designed for graduates in the medical fields and those from related disciplines, such as educational sciences, sociology, and sports. Master's students will study fundamental subjects in public health and epidemiology, along with psychology, communication, and management—skills that are crucial for effective health promotion.
"They don't just work with individual patients; they work with communities and have the opportunity to make real changes. There is a wide range of involvement here in the Republic of Moldova. Graduates can find employment within the National Agency for Public Health and in the ten regional centers," said the USFM representative.
The launch of this new master's program marks a significant step in strengthening the field of public health in the Republic of Moldova and in training a new generation of specialists focused on prevention, education, and effective health policies.
